So the reason why this is part of a series is because I wasn’t too sure that we were going to find snow…by now I should know that when I have an idea I will go to GREAT lengths to make it happen.
I started planning the snow shoot and by Saturday I had Elizabeth Stockenstrom wedding dresses, make-up and hair artist and a model but no 4×4.
By Sunday I gave up on the idea and decided on a winter shoot in the woods to show off the dresses.
Just as I finished my shoot on Sunday I got a message from a fellow photographer Andre van Niekerk, who told me he borrowed his brother in laws 4×4 for the Monday and I was over the moon!

We left for Matroosberg Nature Reserve early Monday morning, hair done in a rush in their little reception area. We decided on doing the 4×2 track which turned out to be a really difficult route, we ended up finding a little bit of snow but we weren’t happy, we tried to make it work but knew we were going to have to take on the 4×4 track to find something amazing.

We drove all the way back to the reception area and Waldo from Matroosberge Nature Reserve was more than willing to help us! His dad Andre was willing to drive us up the mountain.
And let me tell you now…this 4×4 route is not for the faint hearted, I couldn’t breathe and was so scared we were going to slide off a cliff, but Oom Andre was AMAZING, couching us through every bump and difficult area, all the way chatting about this and that and making us feel so comfortable.
Oom Andre jy is ‘n ongelooflike mens! Baie dankie vir die veilige rit en dat jy so lekker met ons gesels het en dankie ook vir Oom Andre se vrou wat ons bitter koue lyfies hot chocolate, koffie en beskuit ingejaag het na die shoot!
Oom Andre and Fralene (Makeup artist, hair stylist and brilliant assistant) helped us with the shoot, holding the reflector and keeping us company.
